Donal McCarthy

Donal McCarthy is a seasoned expert in security, leadership, and management, boasting over 25 years of experience across both public and private sectors. His career began with the U.S. Marshals Service in Detroit, MI, where he dedicated 11 years to ensuring the security of the judiciary and courts, including safeguarding Supreme Court Justices and members of the U.S. Senate. Donal also played a pivotal role in fugitive investigations, notably apprehending a Top 25 Marshals Service fugitive wanted for multiple homicides.

Seeking new challenges, Donal transitioned from Detroit to the elite Marshals Service Special Operations Group, where he rose to the rank of Deputy Commander. His leadership saw him deployed twice to Baghdad, Iraq, and on four tours to Kabul, Afghanistan, where he led complex security operations in high-risk environments. Following this, he was promoted to Commander of the Marshals Service Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force. In this role, Donal led a team of 150 officers across three states, focusing on the apprehension of violent felony fugitives.

After his distinguished service with the Marshals, Donal entered the private sector, taking on the role of Regional Director for Uber’s Law Enforcement Operations Team. There, he educated law enforcement agencies on how to utilize the data captured on Uber’s platform in criminal investigations and critical incidents. He also provided instruction on how to access this data through Uber’s dedicated Law Enforcement Portal, and he supported large-scale events and community safety initiatives.

Donal's career then took him to Chime Financial, where he worked on the law enforcement and government response team. In this capacity, he forged and strengthened relationships between Chime and various governmental agencies, developed training curriculums, and led efforts in responding to law enforcement requests for information. His work included conducting investigations into fraud, identity theft, money laundering, and other financial crimes, as well as managing risk assessments and threat investigations to safeguard employees, corporate assets, and the company’s reputation.

In a return to public service, Donal joined the U.S. Secret Service as an Investigator, where he supervised complex national security and suitability investigations. His focus was on background checks, pre-employment security interviews, and the preparation of detailed investigative reports for national security clearance purposes.

In 2024, Donal brought his extensive experience to 1789 Investigations Group as the Director of the Chicago Field Office. His deep understanding of both government and corporate sectors enables him to provide comprehensive solutions for clients' risk management needs.

Donal is a proud veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. Army and in the Navy Reserves. His educational background includes a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Michigan, a Master’s in National Security and Strategic Operations from the U.S. Naval War College, and a Certificate in Leadership and Culture from Harvard Business School.

He is also an active member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), reflecting his ongoing commitment to professional excellence in the field of security.
